Latest Update! 08/23/2011

Great news! Oregon's first Chinese Immersion charter school, Hope Chinese Charter School (HCCS), has been approved last night at the BSD board meeting. Please join us for our fundraising and celebration dinner on Sept. 17thth (details below).

There is a lot of work that needs to be done to prepare for the opening day of HCCS in Sept. 2012. We are in need of more parent volunteers. Please e-mail if you would like to see how you can help.

Celebration Dinner

We'd like to invite you to our celebration and fundraising dinner at 5 p.m., Sat, Sept. 17th, 2011, at Treasure Island All You Can Eat, Chinese & American Buffet, 15930 Southwest Regatta Lane, Beaverton, OR 97006.

The buffet is $11/adult and $.95 per year/child. The owner will donate 20% of the total proceeds to the charter school as start up fund.

Please bring your whole family to support this effort and meet other perspective charter school families. Our core team members would like to tell you more about the charter school that we are about to build for our children: Chinese immersion, Singapore Math, PeaceBuilders Program, and more. We'd also like to tell you how you can help us reach the goal of launching our school in September 2012!

Please join us and be part of the history of Oregon's first Chinese immersion charter school establishment.

About Hope Chinese Charter School

In June, 2010, 11 parents and educators formed a Chinese immersion charter school design team, planning on extending OHCS current operation to a K-8 Chinese immersion school, which will allow OHCS to provide a full-day Chinese immersion program in addition to its current Saturday classes, starting fall 2012. The initial launch of the school in 2012 will serve grades K-3. Then one grade will be added each year thereafter.

Charter schools are nonsectarian public schools of choice that operate with freedom from many of the regulations that apply to traditional public schools. The "charter" establishing each such school is a performance contract detailing the school's mission, program, goals, students served, methods of assessment, and ways to measure success. Our Chinese-immersion Charter school's mission is to provide a comprehensive, challenging bilingual and bi-literate education environment that nurtures students to be highly proficient in all academic subjects, but with a special emphasis on Chinese, English and mathematics. By doing so, Hope Chinese Charter School will prepare its students to reach their fullest potential as citizens of the world.

Since a charter school is allowed to enroll students from different school districts, this new school will serve families in Beaverton and the nearby region.
